The banana farmer’s poem to his bananas

Leaves above me, glossy sheen,
Shade in sunlight, living green,
Corm and sucker, flowering shoot,
Proud tops waving, hidden root.

Fruit to travel half a world,
Hard green fingers stiffly curled,
Ripen at your destinations,
Food of millions, feed the nations.

Dark disease or pests could slay
My gentle trees would waste away
But I protect, so you’ll stand tall
Waving graciously to all.

Grove of solace, shelter me,
Upright trunks of every tree,
Reaching up towards the sky,
Who is safer now than I?

Leaves above me, glossy sheen,
Shade in sunlight, living green,
Corm and sucker, flowering shoot,
Proud tops waving, hidden root.
